Had dinner here on a rainy pre busy season Sunday for restaurant week. When we entered, I noticed a table by the window with a water view. Hostess said that table is reserved but we could put you on the upper level. What's an upper level it's a one story building? Well they have a platform one step up with 3 tables. It's actually a great spot with a nice view.
Service was excellent this time. I have been to A Lure a couple of times and was disappointed by the poor unprofessional service. This is a big improvement.
The food was outstanding. Very fresh seafood but they do have other options for fish adverse persons. The grilled calamari was very tender with Greek style seasoning. Clam chowder was not your typical clam chowder, very creamy, almost like a bisque but we enjoyed it. For main dishes we got flounder and cod. The cod was the better of the two. Flounder was fried and did not expect that. It wasn't bad we just weren't expecting fried fish based on the menu description.
For dessert we got the brownies to go. The cranberry brownie was the better of the Two.
Great deals during restaurant week. Regular menu can be pricy but the quality of the food is worth it. -

What a disappointment on this visit. I'm sure management could do better than have people wait 45 minutes for food after order was taken. Sometimes it's not the wait staff but kitchen. I had to ask for the waitress to find out if there was a problem since we were waiting so long. Wait staff I feel should have been more attentive to the patrons on her own.
Now for the food. Very small portions, high prices. Grilled calamari was delicious but you can count the pieces on your fingers. One small crab cake and not served with menu item corn salad but slaw. No explanation given for the change.
The south facing Deck has a gorgeous view of Shelter Island. However the umbrellas are small and set too high. Offered little protection from the sun. Note there is olive oil on table sitting in full sun. Don't use. Olive oil goes rancid in sun. Bread served is so so. I expected better.
Will not go back again. There is so much to choose from in the area. -

This is an excellent restaurant with wonderful views of the Southold Bay. The menu includes an extensive selection of fin fish and some shell fish, ie Lobster, clams, oysters, etc. A Lure has an extensive wine list, including an eclectic list of local and other fine wines.
This was my first visit, but was a return for some of my party. Those others of my party felt that this visit was not as good as the last. It's worth mentioning that the last visit was a weekday visit, while this visit was a Friday evening. At the prior visit there was some chit chat with the owner, while this visit required a 15 minute wait for our reserved table.
The service was mostly professional but not perfect. The kitchen service to the table was a little rough, and my warm peach cobbler was delivered stone cold. The wait service mostly fixed that and the experience was overall very good. I liked it but it could have been better. -

AVOID
There were bugs in the napkins (we sat inside).
There was blood stains on the table cloth (they covered with a piece of paper).
Sadly, that wasn't the worst part. The food was over cooked and dry. It was to the point where you would think it was under a heat lamp all day. Severely disappointed and disgusted by this place. -

Spent a lovely dinner at A Lure with my family and the nice thing was that it was BYOB. Which is rare on LI. They didn't even charge a corkage fee. The menu did have a variety of fish, pasta and meats. Our choices did not disappoint and we enjoyed the outdoor seating as well.
